Red, White & Blue

Hi Bloggers,

To give you a little break from Ethel and Murray (they will be back!), I've made this card just for the blog. I had a die cut (the large blue Fleur De Lis Rectangle) left over from I demo I couldn't do on a show so that was the starting point for this very quick & easy card.

For the background, I popped some white card through the Grand Calibur with the Spellbinders Regal M-Bossability Folder. I put it through a second time to extend the pattern. I inked around the edges with Barn Door Distress Ink using Cut n Dry Foam.

I cut the largest of the Fleur De Lis Rectangles out of cobalt card. I stamped the sentiment from the Creative Expressions Sincere Sentiments Stamp Set using Cobalt Archival and embossed with Cosmic Shimmer Clear Embossing Powder. I cut if out using the largest but one of the Fleur De Lis Rectangles and inked through the die with the Barn Door Distress Ink. I mounted these 2 rectangles onto my background with 3D Foam Pads.

I made a flower out of red card using the Spellbinders Carnation Creations dies adding a blue gem in the centre. I mounted this onto 3D Foam and added it to the card. The 3D foam makes it easier to add the White Pearl Decorative Stick Pins. I cut 2 leaves out of cobalt card and 2 leaves out of white card using the Spellbinders Damask Accents Die Set. I inked through the die on the white ones with Barn Door Distress Ink.

I finished the card off with some dots of Cosmic Shimmer Pearlescent PVA in Berry Red.

All for now.

Thanks for stopping by.

Julia.

  1. Hi Julia, this is more my style, red white and blue a classic combination. Wish I could master the dots, I expect practise makes perfect. The fleur de lis dies are great to use and this card shows them off. I may get to love no like Ethal and Murray eventually..... But there again......

  5. Hi Julia, This is a very pretty card and the layout is very vers atile. I love the colours, and I've got the Fleur de Lis dies. I keep meaning to get some distress inks, cos I love the way you and Sue use them, but there are so many to choose from, don't know which ones to get first as am on a limited budget!! thought of getting 2 at a time..Which ones would you recommend first pls?...Enjoy your day...xxx

    1. Hard to say which ones you should buy first. I think it's best to pick 1 from your 2 favourite colour famililies - the colours you use on your cards the most. It's no good buying, say, Vintage Photo if you never make any cards with brown on them. Also, think about whether you're a bright person or a pastel person - if you like pastels or a more subtle look you may prefer to start with lighter colours such as Milled Lavender, Spun Sugar, Tumbled Glass, Shabby Shutters, Dried Marigold, Antique Linen or Tattered Rose. Hope that helps a little. Julia.

    2. Hi,I agree with Julia. I would also say buy the colour distress inks like the colours you use mostly in your projects. I bought too many and haven't used alot of them as i dont craft in those colours!
You will love using them, it took me a while to buy them but they are so easy to use in many ways.

  10. Morning Julia
A stunning card again, and thank you for inspiration as i have the carnation creations dies and never used them to make a flower like yours!! Got to give it a go now, it looks easy but stunning. Also you've convinced me on the damask accents the way you've used them with the flower.
Hope you have a great weekend
