Travel Soar Explore

Hi Bloggers.

Inky fun today!

So, for my inky background, I inked a piece of Coconut White Card with Festive Berries, Seedless Preserves and Salty Ocean Distress Stains. Distress Stains are more vibrant than Distress Ink Pads - you would have to work a bit harder to get this intensity of colour with an ink pad.

I misted some water into my hand and did the 'happy clappy' over the background. I left the spots of water for a minute or so and then blotted off with a piece of kitchen roll.

I popped some Lemon Juice into a mister bottle and misted it into my and and then clapped this over the background too. I dried this with my Heat Tool - it takes a while, has a lovely burnt lemon smell.

Next I stamped one of the little solid flower cluster stamps from the Justrite Floral Fan Elements randomly over the piece using Jet Black Archival.

Then, pinny on and time for some splats in the various colours. They look better is you really go for it! I put it aside so the splats could dry naturally.

Once dry, I placed the Grid Mask at a jaunty angle and inked through it with Pebble Adirondack Dye Ink using a Smoothie. I drew some squiggly lines around the edges and added an 8mm Black Pearl to each corner.

I stamped the Balloon image from the Justrite Explore Vintage Labels Four Die Set onto Coconut White Card using Clear Perfect Medium and embossed with Cosmic Shimmer Clear Embossing Powder. I also stamped the 3 words from the same stamp set in the same way. I added Festive Berries Distress Stain over the stamped image and words.

I cut the Ballon image out using a Justrite Vintage Labels Four Die.

I separated the words using scissors and added some faux stitching using my fineliner pen.

I assembled the card as shown piercing around the edges using my Tim Holtz Ruler, Precision Probe and Piercing Mat.

Phill Martin is launching his own range of dies. The first release is being unveiled tomorrow. They're not available to order yet but as soon as they are I'll order some and load them onto my website.

Thanks for stopping by.

  10. Morning Julia, I remember seeing you demo this technique on Hochanda, I have never seen anyone use lemon juice before, but how effective it looks. A great card. I loved watching you demo the 'splats' it was so funny when you advised the presenter to move away a little. I think doing these splats would be great when we were feeling annoyed !! might help relieve the tension hahaha.
Lots of love from Patricia xx

  27. Hi Julia

Yes! I adore this background, It screams "Julia Watts" at the top of it's voice. No one does an inky background like you IMO and the way you explain how it's done makes it both inspirational and achievable. I think this card !may have made my day!

    Hugs, T x
