Hi Bloggers.
It's not always necessary to buy papers for your scrapbook pages. Just like with your card making, you can make your own papers. For this layout, an 8 x 8 by the way, I have used the paper that comes inside the sleeves of my scrapbook album and changed it.
This is my cat, Charlie. He's a substantial cat (ie a bit on the large side!) and the complete opposite to Smokey. He's quite a pest at times and seems to take great pleasure in luring me to his bowl to find that he doesn't need any more food as his bowl is already full!
For my custom made paper, a Tim Holtz technique. I scrunched up the paper from my album sleeve and then opened it up again. Then I rubbed Black Soot Distress Ink over the peaks of the paper. I spritzed this with water, allowed a couple of minutes for the water to move the Distress Ink a little and then pressed flat with my Encaustic Iron.
I did some splats with Peeled Paint and Old Paper Distress Stains. With the stamp in my hand, I randomly stamped the Creatie Expressions Kitten Treats Background using Black Soot Distress Ink. I inked around the edges with Old Paper Distress Ink.
I cut the border and a couple of corners out of Black Card using Sue's Scandinavian Border, Corner & Tag Die Set.
I matted the photo of Charlie onto Black Card then Green Bazill Card and added a 5mm Black Pearl to 3 corners of the photo.
The journalling panel is cut from Sue's Auvergne Die Set and I inked through the die with Old Paper Distress Ink. I cut a mat out of Black Card using Sue's Provence Die Set.
I cut Charlie's name out of Green Bazill Card using Spellbinders Font One Upper and Lower Case Die Sets.
I made the card up that I didn't get to demo in Tuesday's afternoon show so, I'm offering it up as a giveaway. Just leave a lovely comment on today's post and I'll draw a winner on Wednesday lunchtime.
Thanks for stopping by.
Julia.
Morning Julia, another stunning creation today, I very rarely do any scrapbooking but I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into making such a creation.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to everyone in your card giveaway, I so adore this one as I said when you put it on before, it reminds me of when I was a girl going bluebell picking in the woods, it is such an amazing sight to see a field of bluebells growing in all there glory for everyone to see.
It is still very cold out today so wrap up warm if you do have to go out and be careful, stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx
Morning Julia.

Great card and scrapbook page. My daughter has just bought a scrapbook and wants to complete it for her boyfriends birthday and has enlisted my help. Thanks you for sharing so we can get some ideas xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Julia. Great scrapbook page but I absolutely love your bluebell card. I think these stamps are a good idea, so much easier than having to ink each part of 1 stamp seperately. Hoping to see you tomorrow at Phill's. Safe journey. SueL x
ReplyDeleteMorning Julia
ReplyDeleteHe is a proper Charlie - love him and the scrapbook page what a great idea.
Love the bluebell card, makes you think that spring is on its way

Charlie is s darling well loved you can tell. The card is beautiful julia like June says it reminds you of the blue bell woods and picking them as children. Thank you for sharing love June horrocks xxxx
ReplyDeleteGreat layout Julia and a good reminder for making our own backgrounds. I find I do these techniques when I first see them and then promptly forget about them! Love the photo of Charlie, he looks a very spoiled cat to me. Would love to win the bluebell card as they are one of my favourite flowers. Pat x
ReplyDeleteGreat layout Julia, will definitely bear that in mind when doing layouts of my long lost puss :-( The scrunched up paper technique is something I haven't used for ages (probably years) either, good to have a reminder, thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, I'm not into scrapbooking but love the layout. The bluebell card is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNever done a scrapbook page, thought they had to be 12x12 but after seeing yours is only 8x8 might give it a go. Is Charlie as happy frolicking in the snow as in the sun I wonder? The bluebell card is beautiful too.

Hello Julia and all
ReplyDeleteGreat page. I like your background paper it really complements the photo. Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes
Hi Julia
ReplyDeleteI like the page you've done with Charlie. I'd ordered and received the Justrite stamps you demoed. At Caligraphy they've decided to made a calendar for 2016. As I drew out May and I don't actually for any Caligraphy, I thought these would be lovely as us ladies who only make cards ( that's 4 of us ) have to make a page as well. This will just do the job without to much worry.
Hi Julia,
ReplyDeleteLove your scrapbook page and Charlie looks a darling lol! Love your sentiment lol! My female cat is often in the same pose, especially when the sunning is shining on her!
Have a good day.

Hi Julia
ReplyDeleteCharlie is doind something my dog Billy does a lot. Spreading himself, belly up, across various surfaces! Billy is a blg lad but only because he was bred to be big. If a person is under 5' 7" and Billy goes up on his back legs they may we be dwarfed by him. I need him big to be able to reach things for me so it's ok. I do have to warn new visitors though!
I love big cats too. Especially the big floppoy ones,
Beautiful card. I love blue and adore bluebells.Xxxx
Thanks for a great card & layout,

Charlie has made me smile! What a diva! Can male cats be divas? Why not! Never tried this background technique but will give it a try - might try water with a bit of mica in it... The card is gorgeous I said before that I like this set of stamps because they're seperate and you don't need to use a mask Bluebells remind me of visiting some woods as a small child and seeing this sea of bluebells - breathtaking
ReplyDeleteBeautiful xx hazel
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, a great page and a beautiful card.

Hi Julia,
ReplyDeleteCharlie made me smile. Very effective scrapbook page! Keep meaning to do this but never seem to get round to it! Love the stamp on the card ! It's so pretty .
Thank you,

I know exactly what you mean about the cat that lures you to their food bowl, just to see if they can get anything else out of you. Hopefully the weather is okay tomorrow and I will be able to get across to Nottingham.
ReplyDeleteHi Julia I love your scrapbook page Charlie sounds like a real character he must be a joy to have around. I love the card you are giving away as well. Enjoy the rest of the day. Hugs Jackie

What a good idea to make your own papers for a scrap page silly me never thought of that.
ReplyDeleteI love your card Julia this stamp set is on my wish list, am hoping to do some messy backgrounds this afternoon but it is difficult as we are in the middle of decorating most of the house
Hugs to all Michelle xxxx
Hi Julia, I think the page looks great, as it's all so perfectly blended and balanced. I am not a scrap booker, but warming to it. One page at a time. X Ros
